Johnson cops points penalty

JETT Johnson has been demoted back to third in the Dunlop Super3 Series standings after being issued a points penalty.

Johnson had climbed past Cameron McLeod into second overall after the latter’s heartbreaking last-lap DNF yesterday in Race 1 at Sandown.

McLeod had been running a sensational sixth outright before his #92 Altima ground to a halt.

Consequently, the three-point lead Jobe Stewart carried into Sandown has suddenly ballooned to 153 points over McLeod.

Johnson had briefly separated the two after yesterday’s race, at 126 points behind Stewart, only to be slapped with a 30-point penalty for a breach of parc ferme protocols.

A stewards report released late last night read:

Following an admission by the Authorised Representative of Car 117 to adjusting all four tyres pressures on the Car whilst under Parc Ferme conditions a breach of Division D, Rule 13.6.1.1, along with Supercars HoM considering this to be a minor breach of the Parc Ferme rules, the Stewards imposed a Fine of $1,500 and a loss of 30 Series Points, $750 of which is suspended pending no further breach of D13.6 before the 31/12/2023.

Johnson had already picked up a 15-second time penalty during the race for contact at Turn 11 with Super2 rookie Callum Walker.

That demoted Johnson to fourth in class, losing one position to debutant Valentino Astuti.

Dunlop Series action resumes today with Qualifying for Race 2 at 9:15am AEST.
