Larry Perkins to be guest at V8 Sleuth’s Bathurst 1000 Open Night

SIX-TIME Bathurst 1000 winner Larry Perkins will be the special guest at V8 Sleuth’s annual Open Night event during race week at this October’s Repco Bathurst 1000.

To be held on the evening of Thursday October 5 at the National Motor Racing Museum at Mount Panorama, the annual event has proven to be a popular part of race week for motorsport fans – tickets are on sale now here and are expected to sell out quickly.

Hosted by V8 Sleuth’s Aaron Noonan, the night involves a special sit-down interview with the legendary racer and Q&A session.

Perkins won the ‘Great Race’ in 1982, 1983 and 1984 with the Holden Dealer Team before establishing his own team and winning in a trio of Castrol Commodores in 1993, 1995 and 1997.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of his 1993 victory, the last Bathurst win by a Holden V8-powered car, alongside the late Gregg Hansford – this topic will be a special part of this year’s Open Night.

Tickets are available for the V8 Sleuth Open Night here.

“I’m really thrilled to confirm that LP will join us at this year’s V8 Sleuth Open Night,” says V8 Sleuth’s Aaron Noonan.

“He’s an icon of Australian motorsport, a legend of Mount Panorama and the perfect guest to join us as we celebrate the 60th anniversary of the ‘Great Race’ at Bathurst this year.

“The Museum has very limited stock of the numbered and signed version of the smash-hit, limited collector’s edition Perkins Engineering car history book we published in 2021, so I’d encourage our guests to grab a copy on the night.”

Perkins made his Bathurst 1000 debut in 1977 and racked up 26 Bathurst 1000 starts, his last coming in 2003.

He drove Holden Toranas and Commodores in all bar one of his Bathurst starts – in 1985 he drove a Ford Mustang with Dick Johnson.

Perkins finished on the podium 12 times at Bathurst including three with Peter Janson in 1977, 1979 and 1980.

His last Bathurst 1000 podium finish came in 1998, a second place with Russell Ingall in that year’s FAI 1000 Classic.
