Limited edition Moffat coin collection released

FOUR-TIME Bathurst 1000 winner Allan Moffat and his famous race cars have been immortalised in a new 9-coin Enamel Penny Collection celebrating one of Australian motorsport’s biggest stars.

Available to order now here from the V8 Sleuth Superstore, the collection produced by Downies Collectables is limited to just 2000 sets, each presented within a case with a Certificate of Authenticity.

Comprising nine genuine Australian Queen Elizabeth II predecimal pennies, the set honours nine of Moffat’s race cars – all celebrated in full colour.

His famous Coca-Cola TransAm Mustang, Mazda RX-7 and ANZ Ford Sierra RS500 all feature among the collection as well as his Bathurst-winning Falcons of the 1970s.

Moffat won the Bathurst ‘Great Race’ for the first time in 1970 and followed it up with wins in 1971, 1973 (the first year of the 1000-kilometre distance) and 1977.

He also won the Australian Touring Car Championship on four occasions, in Falcons in 1973, 1976 and 1977 and in a Mazda in 1983.

Heavily involved as a team owner, TV commentator and administrator after his retirement from driving, Moffat was inducted into the V8 Supercars Hall of Fame in 1999 and the Australian Motor Sport Hall of Fame as an inaugural member in 2016.

The now 83-year-old motorsport legend withdrew from public life a few years ago, his battle with dementia recently featuring in a special story on Nine News with reporter Tony Jones visiting Moffat at his home in a Melbourne aged care facility.
