IT is finally official: Supercars will introduce a live pitlane order in 2024.
The concept first surfaced in mid-April and has long been considered a formality to come into effect next year.
Per the official Supercars website, it has now been approved by the Supercars Commission.
Essentially, it will see the pitlane order from Round 2 onwards determined based on the rolling teams’ championship rankings at the end of the previous event.
That differs from the standard protocol whereby the end-of-year teams’ championship standings sets the pitlane order for the entirety of the following season.
That will still apply for Round 1 next year, but not beyond that.
Also confirmed, as expected, is that Brad Jones Racing will be able to keep its pair of two-car bays next to one another, based on the positioning of its lead combination.
Entering the VAILO Adelaide 500, the teams’ championship order effectively reads: Erebus Motorsport, Triple Eight, BJR, Dick Johnson Racing, Tickford Racing, Walkinshaw Andretti United, Grove Racing, Team 18, PremiAir Racing, Matt Stone Racing and the Blanchard Racing Team.
