Lowndes to give Gen3 its Adelaide debut

THE inaugural winner of the first Adelaide 500 will be among the first drivers to demonstrate Supercars’ Gen3 machinery at the resurrected event.

Craig Lowndes has been named as one of the pilots that will demonstrate the prototype machines over the VALO Adelaide 500 weekend, sharing time with Brodie Kostecki in the Chevrolet Camaro while Cam Waters and Zane Goddard will drive the Ford Mustang.

Lowndes, the winner of the inaugural event in 1999 and the winner of the first race of the Car of the Future era on the Adelaide streets in 2013, will be behind the wheel of the GM product when the first Gen3 demonstrations take place next Thursday.

FLASHBACK: Supercars’ unique 25-hour marathon

The Gen3 prototypes have most recently been in action during the latest round of VCAT parity and homologation testing at Toowoomba’s Wellcamp Airport, which wrapped up earlier this month.

The week-long test marked the first time the new generation S650 Mustang, revealed at the Repco Bathurst 1000, was matched against the Camaro.
