Moffat declines #1 for Trans Am title defence

JAMES Moffat will be gunning for back-to-back National Trans Am crowns, but without the #1 on his brand-new Valvoline/LMCT+ Ford Mustang.

Having shuffled within the Garry Rogers Motorsport stable out of TCR Australia and into Trans Am, the Supercars Championship race winner sealed his maiden professional motorsport title last year after a topsy-turvy campaign.

Moffat, who is expected to again co-drive for Tickford Racing in the 2024 Supercars enduros, has now confirmed he’ll be back for another full Trans Am season – using #34, which has long been associated with GRM.

“I’m looking forward to the year ahead. 2023 was pretty successful for us, but that’s behind us now and the job ahead is to perform at a high level once again,” said the 39-year-old.

“It’s exciting to be back with the team and everyone at GRM, Valvoline and LMCT+.

“The calendar is shaping up as a strong one, a lot of the tracks we visited last year but some big additions as well.

“The Trans Am cars will be spectacular around Adelaide, not just for the drivers but fans as well, and it’s a big way to finish the year.

“First and foremost I’m just excited to get going at Sandown, we’re in a brand-new car so we’re looking to hit the ground running.

“You never take anything for granted in this sport, so hopefully we can pick up where we left off.

“The depth of talent in the field continues to improve year-on-year, there’s a really good mix of drivers in the field.

“If we do all the things right that we did last year, we should be competitive again throughout the season.”

Moffat is the first GRM Trans Am driver announced for 2024.

The season kicks off at Sandown on February 9-11.
