Moffat makes light of Victor Bray-esque starts

JAMES Moffat has established himself as one of Supercars’ premier co-drivers in the past half-decade but race starts have become the one chink in his armour.

The last two years at Bathurst, Moffat bogged down off the line, before him and Cam Waters inevitably fought their way back onto the Mount Panorama podium.

Starts were a major focus for Moffat at Tickford Racing’s pre-enduro test, and it’s likely that he’ll be in the Monster Mustang when it lines up third on the Sandown 500 grid this afternoon.

SHOOTOUT: Brilliant Brown jags Sandown 500 pole

“The last couple of years at Bathurst we have been giving Victor Bray a run for his money in a burnout competition,” Moffat said, referencing the Australian drag racing and burnout king.

“Naturally it has been a bit of a focus.

“The one I did on Friday was respectable… you have got a process and you have just got to stick to it, go through it and hopefully it’s a good one.”

Moffat heaped praise on Waters for his Top 10 Shootout performance, in what feels like the umpteenth time he has led the Ford charge this year.

“Super effort really. He’s masterful at those one-lap Shootouts,” said Moffat.

“To be lining up on the second row of the grid is as good as we could have asked for this weekend.”
