Morris upstages Moffat, Herne in Trans Am practice

WHILE all eyes were on the battle between Trans Am champions James Moffat and Nathan Herne, Nash Morris soared to take day one honours at Symmons Plains.

Driving his 2021 title-winning Dodge Challenger, Herne was straight on the pace in his return to the category, proving Moffat’s nearest threat in Practice 1.

The latter topped the timesheets with a 54.0370s, with Herne second at 0.1152s adrift.

There was even less separating the duo in Practice 2 – Moffat a mere 0.0182s ahead this time, except now they were second and third as Morris led the way aboard his Supercheap Auto Mustang thanks to a late flyer.

All up, there were five drivers who went quicker than the best Trans Am practice time recorded at the 2023 Race Tasmania, with Jordan Boys and Tim Slade right in the hunt too.

In TCR Australia, Tony D’Alberto and Aaron Cameron topped the respective practice sessions, the former’s 56.0146s good enough to be best on combined times.

The fastest lap of the day however was a 51.7620s by Steve Tamasi’s Holden Calibra in third and final practice for the National Sports Sedan Series.

Qualifying will be first up tomorrow for each of Trans Am, TCR and Sports Sedans, while Tassie Tin Tops and Hyundai Excels will get stuck straight into racing.
