IT was five years ago at Albert Park that Chaz Mostert last won a race in a Ford Supercar.
He does have eight victories since then, but all in Holden equipment.
Today represents perhaps his best chance yet to return to the winners’ circle with his beloved Blue Oval.
Mostert will start from pole position for a 14-lap sprint, while the dominant Triple Eight Camaros of Broc Feeney and Will Brown line up sixth and ninth on the grid.
The Walkinshaw Andretti United star missed an opportunity yesterday when he got a poor getaway from third, and launching well off the startline this morning will be critical.
“It’s always pretty good getting a trophy, but it’s bittersweet,” Mostert said of Race 3 on Saturday, where he fought back to take third behind Feeney and Brown (who both started behind him).
“I’m really dirty with my start but you can’t complain about a top three finish.
“I’ll work on my start tonight, we start off pole tomorrow… it’s been awesome to reward the team for all their hard work with a pole.”
The driver starting second has grabbed the initial lead in every race so far at the 2024 Melbourne SuperSprint, and it’s Matt Payne in that grid slot this morning, with Cam Waters third.
There was reason to smile for Mostert’s WAU teammate Ryan Wood yesterday, with the rookie collecting his maiden top 10 finish.
“It was nice to race our way forward today and finally stay out of trouble, the car was hooked up during the race which was awesome, a massive credit to the team,” said the Kiwi.
“It’s great to get my first top 10 under my belt, really excited to get strapped in tomorrow and we will be looking for another strong result.”
Wood will start 16th in Race 4 of the weekend, which is due to get underway at 10:25am AEDT.
