New doors, panels for Mustangs at Bathurst

FORD teams will enter the Repco Bathurst 1000 armed with new lightweight doors and rear quarter panels, plus a lower Centre of Gravity.

Supercars has confirmed the news eight days out from opening practice at the Mountain.

Tickford Racing and DYC have been credited with designing the changes, which achieve a weight reduction of 5.84kg.

It also comes with a slightly lower CoG to the tune of 1.31mm.

The Mustang fleet will still have to meet the category-wide minimum weight, which is now set at 1340kg, but may now be able to do so with more choice (e.g. positioning of ballast).

On the flipside, the Chevrolet CoG adjustment has been wound back to 0.0kg, per Supercars’ official website.

What that means is the Camaros will no longer be slapped with the 4.97kg worth of ballast behind the fuel cell, which had been implemented prior to Perth to raise its CoG.

Chevrolet enjoyed a top five lockout in the recent Sandown 500, and its drivers now fill the top five positions in the overall championship.

The Bathurst 1000 will be held across October 5-8.
