NEW TEAM RACING TO MAKE 2022 SUPERCARS GRID

SUPERCARS’ newest team owner Peter Xiberras is poised to lock in a Gold Coast base for his PremiAir Racing outfit, amid an ongoing fight to be ready for the start of the season.

Xiberras joined the Castrol Motorsport News Podcast this week to reveal the latest on his mission, which has been born out of the remnants of Team Sydney.

The two ex-Team Sydney Holdens continue to undergo rebuilds at Triple Eight’s Brisbane headquarters ahead of a delayed first test on February 23.

The Repco Supercars Championship begins at Sydney Motorsport Park on March 4-6.

“We’re still madly thrashing to put it all together,” Xiberras told podcast host Andrew van Leeuwen of his team, which will field drivers Chris Pither and Garry Jacobson this season.

“On paper there’s no way we’re going to make it, but there’s no other way of saying it, we’re not going to give up and we will be there on race day.”

Also on the Castrol Motorsport News Podcast this week, AVL is joined by V8 Sleuth’s Stefan Bartholomaeus to dissect the week in motorsport, including the fallout from a Safety Car-strewn debut for the new-look SpeedSeries.

The boys then look at the bid to bring back the Adelaide 500 as Supercars’ 2022 finale and whether the category has a back-up plan in place, reveal another key change at Charlie Schwerkolt’s Team 18 and recap the latest Bathurst co-driver news.

Also this week; the latest Formula 1 car launches and tweaks to the sprint qualifying format, the Castrol Star of the Week and a new segment launches, the Motorsport News Mailbag.
