No plans for BJR to join two-car trend

BRAD Jones has explained why his eponymous squad is not interested in conforming to the two-car structure now used by all other Supercars rivals.

With Tickford Racing downsizing from four cars and the Blanchard Racing Team expanding from one, the 2024 Repco Supercars Championship grid will comprise of 10 two-car teams and one four-car team, namely BJR.

Jones indicated he’s had no pressure to convert his outfit and is adamant it remains the best fit for BJR.

“The four-car model works for us because it enables us to have the depth that I feel we need in engineering and in other areas,” he told V8 Sleuth.

“It took us a long time to go through the growing pains to get to three and then to get to four. It does work for us.

“I’ve had people in the past who don’t understand our business model and don’t know understand our business go ‘you’re better off with two’ but with the restrictions that gives us in terms of generating income and people and the things that we need to do, it’s not the right model for BJR at this point in time.

“We have just come off our most successful year ever in terms of the teams’ championship so clearly it is working for us.”

Jones added that four cars gives a scale of economy that allows BJR an ability to manufacture in-house which it might otherwise not have.

“Absolutely, and we make everything here. Anyone who watches the videos will be able to see some of the infrastructure that we have here and we pride ourselves on being a one-stop shop,” he said.

Andre Heimgartner, Bryce Fullwood and Macauley Jones will continue in the three BJR-owned entries for 2024, while Jaxon Evans has replaced Jack Smith in the SCT Camaro run out of Albury.
