Parity watch: Sandown 500 and Bathurst 1000

SUPERCARS parity hasn’t vanished from the spotlight just yet, with brand against brand performance to be closely monitored at next weekend’s Sandown 500.

Calls for further changes to help Ford get on level pegging with Chevrolet slightly cooled after the Blue Oval was far more competitive at last month’s OTR SuperSprint at Tailem Bend.

Post-event Mustang aero testing took place but it’s unlikely there’ll be any tweaks before Sandown.

Three weeks after Sandown is the biggest race on the calendar, the Repco Bathurst 1000. Straight-line speed will be pivotal at both enduros.

“I don’t see any changes coming before Sandown, but then I guess we will have to see for Bathurst,” Grove Racing team principal David Cauchi told V8 Sleuth.

“That depends a little bit on what Sandown delivers.”

He is adamant though that a final resolution has not been reached.

“I think everyone acknowledges that there’s still work to be done,” Cauchi continued.

“The cars aren’t equal from an aero perspective, there’s still differences that we need to work towards sorting out.

“But there’s a process and there has got to be understanding of what the problems are to be able to then work out what the right solutions are. So that’s an ongoing process and we’ll just have to see certainly what Sandown brings, and then whether that triggers a change for Bathurst.

“Of course, a change to your package before the biggest event of the year is also not really that preferable as well. It’s a tricky one but we’ll work through it.

“We’re just focusing on ourselves like we always do.

“We have got a great line-up going into the enduros. That’s all we are focusing on, making sure that we get the most out of the package that we have and the team we have.

“All those other details will sort themselves out.”

Grove’s two Mustangs will be shared by David Reynolds/Garth Tander (#26) and Matt Payne/Kevin Estre (#19).
