PremiAir plotting Bathurst boilover

PREMIAIR Racing believes it is possible to topple Erebus Motorsport star Brodie Kostecki at the Repco Bathurst 1000.

Kostecki dominated the Friday proceedings at the Mountain, comfortably leading Practice 4 and qualifying.

That’s despite the #99 Coca-Cola Camaro setting the least laps of all cars in Practice 4, and the fact Kostecki’s only proper flyer in qualifying was affected by traffic.

Kostecki’s nearest threat ended up being PremiAir’s James Golding, at 0.1489s adrift.

With the Top 10 Shootout this afternoon setting the front five rows of the grid for tomorrow’s 161-lap race, PremiAir director of engineering Geoff Slater declared “anything is possible”.

“I think if you had a clean lap and get everything right, beating #99 is possible,” he told V8 Sleuth.

“But Brodie is extremely quick. In a tow, without a tow, Brodie is still the car to beat.”

For a second-year team yet to register a front-row start or podium, the #31 Nulon Camaro making the Bathurst Shootout – let alone being the penultimate runner in it – is an enormous moment.

But the focus remains on Sunday, where procedural execution will come under the microscope for a prolonged period.

“We’re slowly getting there,” said Slater.

“We’re a building team. Getting the right personnel involved, slowly the team is evolving into hopefully a contender.”

Golding’s co-driver, Dylan O’Keeffe was 18th in Practice 5 this morning.

Practice 6 will be open to all drivers, starting 1pm. The Shootout will then kick off at 5:05pm.
