PremiAir swoops on trailblazing Triple Eight engineer

PREMIAIR Racing has made a key addition to its Repco Supercars Championship engineering team, recruiting Romy Mayer from Triple Eight.

Hailing from Germany, Mayer brings experience across the DTM, GT3 and Supercars spheres – including guiding a Craig Lowndes/Declan Fraser wildcard entry to eighth in last year’s Bathurst 1000.

Mayer’s exact full-time role at PremiAir has not been specified as yet.

“I am super excited to be back in the Supercar paddock with Nulon Racing,” she said.

“They have made some big gains this season already, and I am looking forward to chasing the big dogs and hunting some podiums and even a race win with my new team.”

PremiAir’s engineering department is headed up by Geoff Slater, who also works directly on James Golding’s car.

Tim Slade has not had a permanent race engineer since Phillip Di Fazio’s departure earlier this year, cycling through the likes of Blake Smith and Rhys Lenegan since.

A trailblazer in inspiring female participation in motorsport, Mayer’s announcement at PremiAir coincides with International Women in Engineering Day (June 23 annually).

“I think it is pretty cool that my joining the team has been announced on International Women in Engineering Day,” Mayer said.

“International Women in Engineering Day is all about raising awareness about the women pursuing engineering and transforming the world with their achievements, so I think the timing is quite fitting.

“Encouraging women and girls to pursue careers in STEM and motorsport is a real passion of mine, and I look forward to continuing my work in this area while being a part of the Nulon Racing team.”

PremiAir Racing is eighth in the teams’ championship after five rounds this season.

Next up is the NTI Townsville 500 on July 7-9.
