Ryco Race Guide: 2024 Thrifty Bathurst 500 session and TV times

IN 2024 our great mates at Ryco are helping bring V8 Sleuth readers these quick-bite stories that have all of the information for each round of the Repco Supercars Championship in the one place.

With reigning champion Brodie Kostecki sidelined due to his ongoing dispute with Erebus Motorsport, there’s a field of 24 other drivers lining up at Mount Panorama this weekend keen to get their championship off and rolling with maximum points.

There are 14 Chevrolet Camaros and 10 Ford Mustangs in the 2024 field with a range of experience and youth filling the seats.

This year is the second time in the last four seasons that Mount Panorama has hosted the opening round of the championship.

The last time was in 2021 with Shane van Gisbergen won both races in a Red Bull Ampol Commodore ZB.

What is the race format for the Thrifty Bathurst 500?

There are two 250-kilometre races at Bathurst, each with two compulsory pit stops, across which 60 litres of fuel needs to be added to each car. Each car must also change at least two tyres per CPS.

What time are the Supercars sessions at the Thrifty Bathurst 500?

Friday February 23: Practice 1 (12.20-1.20pm), Practice 2 (4.20-5.20pm)

Saturday February 24: Qualifying (10.20-10.40am), Top 10 Shootout (1.05-1.50pm), Race 1 (starts 4.10pm, 40 laps or 1 lap after 5.47pm)

Sunday February 25: Qualifying (9.30-9.50am), Top 10 Shootout (12.05-12.50pm), Race 2 (starts 3.05pm, 40 laps or 1 lap after 4.42pm)

There is a maximum of 300 championship points available, 150 for the winner of each of the 250-kilometre races.

Chaz Mostert currently holds the Supercars race lap record at Bathurst, a 2m04.7602-second lap he set in the 2019 Bathurst 1000.

The Gen3 Supercars race lap record around Bathurst was set in last year’s Repco Bathurst 1000 by Will Brown in an Erebus Camaro, 2m07.5431s on lap 4 of the 161-lap classic.
