SpeedSeries to use The Bend’s West circuit

THE Bend Motorsport Park’s West circuit is set to return to the fore.

Event supplementary regulations show the shorter 3.41km layout will be in use when the Shannons SpeedSeries heads to South Australia for Round 4 on May 31 to June 2.

It’s a move which been met with mixed reactions from competitors.

The Bend has four circuit configurations at its disposal: GT (7.77km), International (4.95km), East (3.93km) and West (3.41km).

The International version has been most prominent over the years, although Supercars has once raced on the West layout, during a 2020 Tailem Bend doubleheader.

Beyond requiring less volunteer marshals and fewer cameras for the broadcast – meaning lower costs – it’s believed a key motivator in the SpeedSeries’ decision is simply to shake things up.

Competing at Race Tailem Bend will be TCR Australia, Trans Am, GT World Challenge Australia, GT4 Australia, National Sports Sedans, Porsche Sprint Challenge, and Australian Production Cars.
