SRO to promote standalone GT4 Australia series

A STANDALONE GT4 Australia category will be launched in 2024 under the watch of a familiar governing body.

GT4 Australia has run this season in conjunction with Australian Production Cars, but will split out for the first time Down Under next year.

V8 Sleuth has learnt a six-round calendar is on the cards, largely tying up with the Shannons SpeedSeries.

Furthermore, the category will be promoted by GT racing powerhouse SRO Motorsports Group, which owns the global rights to GT4.

Asked to confirm as much, a Motorsport Australia spokesperson simply responded: “The category management agreement for the 2024 GT4 season has yet to be confirmed.”

It is widely believed to be a formality though, with SRO to have staff on the ground in Australia to manage the series.

Founded and run by Stephane Ratel, SRO is also set to take over the GT3-focused GT World Challenge Australia category next year, which currently falls under the Australian Racing Group umbrella.

ARG has been in the news plenty of late with significant staff turnover, the rumoured demise of S5000, and Motorsport Australia reclaiming broadcast rights for the 2024 SpeedSeries.

ARG majority owners Barry and Garry Rogers’ team Garry Rogers Motorsport has also faced a tribunal over a technical breach in one of the categories they own, National Trans Am, which has led to a trio of disqualifications for James Moffat and Lochie Dalton (pending appeal).

There are 10 rounds listed on the 2024 Shannons SpeedSeries schedule.
