Stone confident of retaining Le Brocq

AFTER years of toiling away in Supercars’ lower midfield, things have clicked for Jack Le Brocq in 2023.

All of a sudden, he’s a centrepiece of Matt Stone Racing and is delivering accordingly on the track.

Le Brocq has just about been a fixture inside the top 10 this season, with five top five qualifying results including a pole position which he converted into victory at last start in Darwin.

Sitting eighth in the championship and with no signs of slowing down, Le Brocq’s stocks are higher than ever.

The 30-year-old is in the second half of the two-year deal he joined MSR on, but team owner Matt Stone is not concerned about having his lead driver snatched away in the silly season.

ANALYSIS: What to make of Supercars’ silly season developments

“I think as a team and as a whole unit we’re all very happy with what we have been doing,” Stone told V8 Sleuth.

“We have been growing over the last couple of years and we all want to continue that growth over the next few years and keep the momentum going.

“So I’m pretty confident that everyone within our organisation – drivers, team – all want to keep the ball moving forward and I don’t think there’s going to be any hurdles there.”

Rookie teammate Cameron Hill is also off-contract but figures to be a good shot of a renewal given his recent promising form.

Stone spoke in the Sunday press conference at Hidden Valley of how the combination of a senior driver alongside a rookie is playing out well.

“The dynamic there is really great, Jack is a brilliant fit with the culture of the team and really helps to build what we’re building and with Cam coming in, he’s hungry for it and him and Jack work well together in that mentoring role,” said Stone.

“I think the dynamic of what we have got is something that’s really good that we want to continue on for many years to come.”

MSR has not had a totally unchanged driver line-up from year-to-year since expanding to two cars at the start of 2020.
