Supercars Centre of Gravity test data revealed

SUPERCARS’ recent Centre of Gravity parity test produced far closer results than four years ago, V8 Sleuth has learnt.

Nine cars from various Chevrolet and Ford teams were requested to attend Tickford Racing’s Campbellfield headquarters on either April 3 or 4, immediately after the Melbourne SuperSprint.

Parity concerns re-emerged from the Ford side at Albert Park, but the CoG plans were arranged prior to that race meeting.

Supercars tests the CoG with a rig that allows each car to be tipped on its side, measuring the angle at which it will fall over.

The actual CoG in millimetres is later calculated from that reading.

It’s understood a miniscule 0.4 degrees was found to be separating the fleet of cars.

By comparison, a similar test conducted in 2019 led to a wider window of 2.1 degrees.

That came amid the controversial introduction of the Gen2 Mustang which dominated that season, with a flurry of parity tweaks implemented through the year.

It is not yet clear whether there will be any form of adjustment prior to the end-of-month round at Wanneroo Raceway.

Aerodynamics and now CoG appear to have been confirmed as fair game, and the Camaros are already running engine ballast to offset the greater weight of the Coyote engine which powers the Mustang.

Top-end engine performance and straight-line speed have been the major points of contention following Albert Park.
