JAXON Evans has turned valuable laps at Wanneroo Raceway ahead of his first Supercars race at the circuit.
Evans took part in a two-day shakedown test of Arise Racing’s twin Ferrari 296 GT3 cars at the Western Australian track, ahead of the squad’s 2024 GT World Challenge Australia campaign.
Evans and his co-driver Elliott Schutte, plus Liam Talbot, all enjoyed seat time while the latter’s teammate Chaz Mostert is due to attend another upcoming test at the circuit.
While a big step for Arise ahead of next month’s opening sprint round at Phillip Island, the outing was also important for Evans individually.
The Brad Jones Racing recruit is contesting his first full-time Supercars season, and Wanneroo will host Round 4 (the Perth SuperSprint) in mid-May.
Porsche Carrera Cup Australia did not visit the venue in the two seasons Evans spent in the category in 2017-18 – after which he was based overseas for five years.
As for Arise, team manager Jordan Oon hailed a positive first experience with the “refined” and “complex” Maranello machines.
“It was a little surreal watching them roll out,” he said.
“They kind of look a little out of place at Wanneroo. It’s not exactly a traditional track for sports cars, but the team was focused on what we had to do.
“We didn’t take much time to step back to soak it in, but it was good to get them on track and bank miles so we know what we are working with.”
