Supercars to run at Bathurst 12 Hour

SUPERCARS is set to collect one last dose of pre-season data via a trio of demonstration runs at the Repco Bathurst 12 Hour.

A Dick Johnson Racing Mustang and Triple Eight Camaro will feature at the 12 Hour, cutting laps in two separate sessions on Friday February 16 and one the following day.

But there’s more to the outing than being simply a promotional exercise ahead of Mount Panorama hosting the Supercars season-opener on February 23-25.

Per the category’s official website, torque sensors and “other non-standard sensors” will be fitted to both cars, with selected data to be shared with all teams.

Following four days of wind tunnel testing in the United States, the parity focus has shifted to engines and the use of torque sensors, with Ford and homologation team Dick Johnson Racing developing a new-specification engine.

“We’re excited to be able to showcase our Gen3 Supercars to a potential new audience,” Supercars general manager of motorsport Tim Edwards told Supercars.com.

“The Repco Bathurst 12 Hour has proven a great event for all motorsport enthusiasts, and we’re keen to showcase what Supercars is all about.

“The demonstration runs also enable us to collect more data, with torque sensors now a major benefit when it comes to additional technical performance measures.

“We are always keen to provide teams with as much data as possible to produce best outcomes.”
