MANAGEMENT of Touring Car Masters could fall back into the hands of competitors for 2024.
It’s a prospect which has long been rumoured, and V8 Sleuth understands a meeting on the very subject was held between car owners at last weekend’s Bathurst International.
TCM has been under the watch of the Australian Racing Group for several years now, ARG having announced a deal for the category’s rights in July 2019.
ARG powerbroker Barry Rogers was upfront in speaking with V8 Sleuth on the matter.
“There’s no update at this point but what you say is exactly right, the competitors are looking to take back control of it for what they want,” he said.
“So, I think they are working away in the background and trying to get that all together to make that happen.
“It’s heading in that direction.”
A purchase of the TCM commercial rights agreement would, as per usual, be subject to Motorsport Australia approval.
Speculation is also mounting that competitors/prospective owners may turn to former TCM supremo Tony Hunter to drive the category back to its glory days.
ARG has already shed GT World Challenge Australia from its portfolio for 2024, with SRO Motorsports Group to take charge in running both that and a standalone GT4 Series.
Steven Johnson leads the 2023 TCM standings by 75 points from Ryan Hansford, with Adelaide to host the final round on November 23-26.
