SEVERAL champions have been crowned today in Adelaide, but none more dramatically than Callum Hedge in Porsche Carrera Cup Australia.
Hedge entered the season-closing race trailing Jackson Walls by two points, meaning whoever finished ahead in the Sunday encounter would claim the title.
Hedge started second and Walls fourth, making for a mouth-watering decider.
Similar to the Saturday Supercars race, the situation changed within seconds after a dramatic beginning to proceedings.
Walls got a lightning getaway but he and Hedge both got loose through the first chicane, the latter enduring side-to-side contact with Max Vidau in the battle for second on-track.
While Hedge escaped after getting airborne over the kerbs, the left-rear tyre deflated on Walls’ Porsche causing him to spin into the outside wall at Turn 3.
Then and there, with Walls out on the spot, it was clear that Hedge would win the championship so long as he finished the race.
He did precisely that, conservatively bringing his #17 home in seventh place as Dale Wood swept the round.
In S5000, Aaron Cameron also completed a cleansweep to secure his second Tasman Cup.
That comes a day after he sealed the Gold Star.
Meanwhile, Matt Campbell/Yasser Shahin won Race 3 in GT World Challenge Australia but that was not enough to stop Liam Talbot claiming the overall prize.
Talbot/Christopher Mies finished Race 3 in third, one place behind Geoff Emery/Max Hofer.
There had already been three titles decided yesterday in Adelaide: Brodie Kostecki in the Supercars Championship, Jobe Stewart in Super3, and Steven Johnson in Touring Car Masters.
The Super2 gong is the last one up for grabs now, with Zak Best and Kai Allen currently duking it out.
