Track to Town parade for Taupō Super400

A FULL field of Gen3 Mustangs and Camaros will venture into the heart of Taupō at next month’s inaugural Repco Supercars Championship round in the New Zealand tourist town.

A Track to Town parade, similar to what is commonly facilitated at Bathurst, will take place on Thursday April 18.

The convoy of Supercars are due to leave Taupō Motorsport Park at 3:45pm local time and make their way to a site in Roberts Street, nearby the #LOVETAUPŌ sign, where an autograph session will ensue.

The 8.6km journey will take in stretches on Broadlands Road, Tauhara Road, Spa Road and Tongariro Road along the way.

Track action will then take centre stage from April 19-21, as Taupō begins its era as Pukekohe’s successor in being New Zealand’s home of Supercars.

“We are sincerely grateful to the Taupō District Council for their unwavering support in making this unique event possible,” Supercars chief operating officer Tim Watsford said.

“The Track to Town journey is an exciting project that brings the Supercars experience right to the heart of Taupō, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to showcase our sport in such a vibrant community.”

“We invite fans to join us at the live site and at vantage points along the way, as Supercars take to the streets against the breathtaking backdrop of Taupō.”

The ITM Taupō Super400 will also have concerts on the Friday and Saturday nights, with Kaylee Bell (April 19) and Six60 (April 20) performing.

On the track, Supercars will be supported by Porsche Carrera Cup Australia, NZ Central Muscle Cars, Toyota Gazoo Racing 86 Series NZ and Formula Ford NZ.
