Trans Am aces making TA2 cameos under lights

A NUMBER of National Trans Am regulars will get an early look at Sydney Motorsport Park by delving into the TA2 Muscle Car Series this weekend.

Championship contender Tom Hayman is among the 26-car field, as is Ben Grice, John Holinger and The Racing Academy duo Cody Gillis and Elliott Cleary.

TCR Australia race winner Jordan Cox is also in the field.

National Trans Am and TCR will both compete at SMP as part of the Race Sydney event on November 3-4.

The Trans Am title race was blown wide open this week following Winton disqualifications applied to Garry Rogers Motorsport teammates James Moffat and Lochie Dalton.

Moffat and Dalton have dropped from first and second, respectively, to seventh and eighth as a result.

Elliot Barbour is the new series leader, 21 points clear of Josh Webster, with Brett Holdsworth, Hayman, Craig Scutella and Gillis all not far behind.

TA2 meanwhile has its own squabble for glory playing out; SMP is the penultimate round of the season and Calder Park will host the finale across November 30 to December 2.

Dylan Thomas has his nose in front, with both Jackson Rice and Josh Haynes 13 points behind.

There will be four TA2 races this weekend, with Saturday action being livestreamed via the TA2 and Hi-Tec Oils Super Series Facebook pages from 1pm AEDT and broadcast via SBS Viceland and Fox/Kayo Sports from 6pm.

There will also be racing this weekend at The Bend Motorsport Park, including a 28-strong Porsche Sprint Challenge grid.

Yet another talented Kiwi has joined the field, with 18-year-old world champion karter Clay Osborne to drive for McElrea Racing.
