Triple Eight reacts to Newcastle appeal dismissal

TRIPLE Eight Race Engineering has accepted the decision of the Supercars National Court of Appeal despite maintaining its innocence.

The team’s appeal of the disqualification of both its cars from Race 1 at the Newcastle 500 was dismissed tonight following a hearing which spanned three and a half hours.

While there is scope to escalate the matter to the FIA International Court of Appeal, a post-verdict Triple Eight statement indicates the matter is now closed.

“Triple Eight are disappointed in the decision to uphold the team’s disqualification of both cars from Race 1 of the Newcastle 500 for a technical breach,” read the statement.

“The team maintains our position that we were given an instruction allowing us to install the cooling boxes in a place that conferred no performance advantage at all, but respects the outcome delivered by the Supercars National Court of Appeal.

“Our sole focus now shifts to the upcoming Melbourne 400, and the remainder of the 2023 Supercars Championship season.”

An earlier statement from Motorsport Australia promised “a full and substantiative decision paper will be published by close of business on Friday.”
