TRIPLE Eight and Walkinshaw Andretti United have each copped points penalties for pitlane misdemeanours during Race 1 of the ITM Taupō Super400.
Both squads have been deducted 30 teams’ championship points and fined $1500.
For Triple Eight, the incident in question was a wheel nut flying off into the fast lane during a pitstop for Will Brown.
Walkinshaw Andretti United’s matter was even more spectacular, resulting in the right-rear wheel of Chaz Mostert’s Mustang coming loose on-track.
It was determined that the car was released from the pits “in an unsafe condition”.
As a result, Triple Eight’s lead over Grove Racing has been trimmed to 376 points, while WAU drops from fifth to seventh in the teams’ championship (with Dick Johnson Racing and Matt Stone Racing the beneficiaries).
Other post-race sanctions included Matt Payne picking up a five-second time penalty for contact with Thomas Randle.
Tickford Racing has also been fined $1000 for a breach relating to data logger data being uploaded in time for both its cars following Saturday qualifying.
