MAX Vidau has been promoted to the winner of the opening Porsche Carrera Cup Australia race in Townsville after Callum Hedge was hit with a rare post-race penalty.
Hedge took the chequered flag first, only to be served with a five-position penalty for a breach of driver briefing instructions.
Specifically, that related to the #17 entry spinning its rear wheels after the apex of the last corner on the formation lap.
The finishing order of Race 1 now reads Vidau, Alex Davison, David Wall, Fabian Coulthard, Jackson Walls and then Hedge in sixth.
It’s thus a double whammy for Hedge, putting him behind title rival and series leader Walls in the classification.
The duo will share the third row of the grid for Race 2, starting 8:35am tomorrow.
Wall (not to be confused with Walls) was also penalised, but in the form of 15 championship points rather than a time penalty, for making contact with David Russell at Turn 6.
Russell, who entered Townsville sixth in the standings, has been forced to withdraw from the remainder of the event.
For Vidau, the victory is a welcome result after a difficult Round 2 in Darwin.
