SHANE van Gisbergen has stamped his authority on the Battery World Aussie Racing Cars Super Series, going undefeated through his cameo appearance.
Van Gisbergen took pole position and all four race wins at the Highlands Motorsport Park season finale, while Joel Heinrich did enough to seal the title.
Having previously won the 2018 crown, Heinrich dipped his toes into Super2 before finding his way back into Aussie Racing Cars with considerable success.
“It was an awesome year, awesome round,” said Heinrich.
“Absolutely stoked with the year, it was smooth sailing at the start and brought it home in the end, so I can’t wait to go again next year.
“It was a big build up from the start of the year. Getting a couple of wins early really set us up for the back end.
“The last couple of events were tough, we had a shocker in the last round where we had a couple of mechanical problems and crashed out.
“This weekend was just about trying to consolidate, but it’s been a whole year’s effort and tireless as with the rounds back-to-back it was just so busy.
“I’m so glad we got there in the end.”
As for van Gisbergen, he enjoyed the hitout.
“It’s been really good. I was quick in qualifying, but I wasn’t sure how I was going to go in the races,” the three-time Supercars champion said at the close of play on Saturday.
“In the first race we were good, I couldn’t break the tow, and the other guys have gotten quicker and have learned the track.
“The front three now have restrictors, so we are equally as slow as each other. It made it harder to come back through the field in the reverse grid race against the guys with no restrictors. I think it all works out pretty well.”
