VIDEO: Heavy rain causes dramatic crash in Bathurst Toyota 86 race

ALEX Hadden and Bradi Owen have walked away from a dramatic crash in the second Toyota Gazoo Racing Australia 86 Series race at the Repco Bathurst 1000.

The pair had separate spins into the gravel on the inside of the Chase on the penultimate lap, with Hadden’s car rolling onto its side.

The crashes led to the race finishing under Safety Car with Zach Bates claiming his second win of the weekend.

Unlike Friday’s race, where the wet weather caused chaos throughout, the Toyota 86 field handled the atrocious conditions well in their second six-lap sprint.

Heavy rain started to fall as the lights went green to start the race, leading to Luke Vanna crashing halfway up Mountain Straight on the opening lap.

The race resumed after a brief Safety Car period, with Bates and Ryan Gilroy engaging in a fierce battle for the lead, ending with the former in the lead when the Safety Car was called after Owen and Hadden’s crashes.

The final TGRA 86 Series race of the weekend is scheduled for Sunday at 9:05am AEDT.
