Warm-up drama for repaired Le Brocq/Seton Holden

A FRANTIC morning is ahead of two crews after gremlins emerged during warm-up for the Repco Bathurst 1000.

With the clock ticking down to an 11:15am AEDT race start, there was drama during the 20-minute session for both Matt Stone Racing and Tickford Racing.

MSR’s Car #34 had not run since yesterday morning, when Aaron Seton crashed in Practice 5, and it appears all is not well following the rebuild.

“It’s one of these fickle places with steering racks and pressure and binding and that sort of stuff,” said primary driver Jack Le Brocq.

“We had a little bit of binding in the wet then which is a little bit concerning, especially because we’re probably going to have a dry day today.

“We’ll look into it now, work out what’s going on and sort it out.”

He elaborated: “Just under heavy load when the front’s down, we’re getting that bind, which you should never get to near that load in the wet.

“It’s a bit strange but the guys know what they’re doing and we’ll get it sorted for the big one.”

Of the 28 cars, Tickford’s Tradie Mustang was the only one to record less than six laps, instead registering just three untimed laps.

“We fitted some new panels overnight and we’re just having a few clearance issues with the wet tyre,” explained Kurt Kostecki.

“It’s a little bit bigger and a few of those wet blocks were rubbing on the panels. The boys are straight into it and they’ll get it fixed before the big race.”

Will Davison topped the session to start the Shell V-Power Racing Team’s day in style.

With the sun shining, a slippery track gradually improved, and Davison took full advantage with a late 2:22.4594s to put himself more than six tenths clear of the field.

It’s the third session this week the #17 Mustang has finished atop.

Second was front-row starter Lee Holdsworth and third James Golding, who continues to impress for PremiAir Racing.
