Waters calls for end to Ford friendly fire

CAM Waters admits a discussion between Ford drivers may be required to put an end to the friendly fire which has kept the Mustang winless in 2024.

The scoreboard this season reads six-nil in Chevrolet’s favour, but that could easily look different had it not been for clashes over the lead in the most recent two races.

Waters and Matt Payne collided heavily in the Saturday leg at Albert Park, and then Payne was bumped off the track by Chaz Mostert in an error which the latter quickly apologised for.

Camaro drivers swooped on both occasions, with the respective victories going to Broc Feeney and Nick Percat.

“It’s a good point. I think the Ford guys probably need to work together a bit smarter with that stuff for sure and make sure we have got a Ford on the top step,” Waters told V8 Sleuth.

“It’s something that we probably need to chat about.”

At times last year, most notably Symmons Plains, Waters was the lone ranger flying the Ford flag.

The Tickford Racing star has taken joy at the Blue Oval’s improved performance this season.

“I think the Ford camp this year is definitely stronger,” he said.

“We have got probably three really good teams at the moment and DJs (Dick Johnson Racing) are going to fire up at some point, no doubt.

“We have got really good teams and have been super competitive within the Ford camp, which has been great.

“Obviously we’re all pushing to win races though and we haven’t won any this year yet, so that’s a focus.”

Waters enters the inaugural ITM Taupō Super400 fresh off making his NASCAR Truck Series debut.

The 29-year-old’s Supercars record in New Zealand is headlined by two pole positions and five podiums, all at Pukekohe.
