3:30am rebuild gets Brown back on track

EREBUS Motorsport worked until 3:30am this morning to complete a rebuild of its #9 Coca-Cola Camaro in Adelaide.

Will Brown crashed out on Lap 1 yesterday after a bump from Anton De Pasquale exiting Turn 4, after which he was collected from behind by Shane van Gisbergen.

Erebus CEO Barry Ryan tipped it would be the biggest rebuild of any car this year, with particularly substantial damage to the rear.

Instead of partying to celebrate Brown’s teammate Brodie Kostecki winning the championship, an all-nighter of the work variety ensued.

“The boys have put in an amazing effort all year and as well last night, to be here until 3:30am and then be back here early in the morning to go again,” Erebus managing director Shannen Kiely told V8 Sleuth.

“It’s not the way they wanted to be celebrating Brodie’s championship but unfortunately that’s motorsport sometimes.

“Hopefully we can have a good run with both cars today and we can kick off celebrations this afternoon.”

Erebus is in the box seat to secure the teams’ championship, carrying a 161-point advantage over Triple Eight into today with no more than 288 up for grabs.

Sunday qualifying starts at 10:15am local time (10:45am AEDT).
