ONE of the most dominant cars in Australian motorsport history will make a grand return to Adelaide next year.
A 1992-spec ex-Gibson Motorsport Nissan Skyline GT-R R32 will feature on-track at the 2024 Adelaide Motorsport Festival, to be held on March 16-17.
Nicknamed ‘Godzilla’, the Skyline was utterly dominant, powering Mark Skaife and Jim Richards to a one-two in the 1992 Australian Touring Car Championship, as well as victory in that year’s Bathurst 1000 – a result infamous for Richards’ subsequent “pack of arseholes” speech.
The turbocharged beast bowed out with a Richards win at the non-championship Adelaide round in ’92, in support of the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix.
The Adelaide Motorsport Festival made a stellar return this year, with Finnish Formula 1 driver Valtteri Bottas making a starring appearance.
Event organisers have indicated they will soon make special announcements relating to an F1 car and a grand prix motorcycle that will appear at the 2024 edition.
