THE latest episode on the Perkins Engineering YouTube channel runs through one of the more distinctive features of the team’s V8 Supercars: five-stud wheels.
The team persisted with five-stud wheels throughout the 1990s; in contrast, most of their rivals had adopted centre-lock wheels in the late 1980s.
In the video, Jack Perkins explains the reasons why Perkins Engineering persisted with the five-stud setup for so long, why Larry Perkins adopted it in the first place, and why they ultimately changed to the centre-lock setup for the 2000 season.
A reminder, too: the National Motor Racing Museum holds the last remaining stock of our recently released book, Perkins Engineering: The Cars, 1986-2008.
