Adderton responds to Stanaway/Triple Eight deal

BOOST Mobile founder Peter Adderton has expressed his delight at Richie Stanaway’s move to Red Bull Ampol Racing.

Adderton has led a persistent campaign to run Stanaway ideally in a full-time main game capacity at his own team, or at least as a wildcard.

That continued to be his focus as recently as last month, when V8 Sleuth contacted him about early indications that Stanaway would join Shane van Gisbergen for the 2023 enduros.

However, Adderton is by no means disappointed with the outcome.

“As everyone knows we have been pushing Supercars hard to get our team on the grid for 2023 and have been blocked by certain teams,” he wrote on social media this morning.

“So (we were) without clarity and not being able to give Richie Stanaway the certainty of anything in 2023 including not being told if we can even run wildcards.

“So when this opportunity to race with Shane van Gisbergen and Red Bull Ampol Racing came up for Richie, we were not going to get in the way of this incredible opportunity for him, I for one could not be prouder.

“The (2022 Repco Bathurst 1000) wildcard with Greg Murphy was created to give Richie one last shot to show off his talent. Well done mate, now give ‘em hell.

“Hopefully we can do some wildcards in 2023.”

There remains hope that Stanaway may line up in a Triple Eight-built, Adderton-owned Camaro in at least one solo round this season, perhaps the Boost-backed Gold Coast 500.

In announcing his 2023 co-drive, Stanaway made a special mention of Adderton, who has long been a loyal ally.

“I want to thank Boost Mobile and Peter Adderton for their support, as well as Greg Murphy who I drove with last year,” said the 31-year-old Kiwi.

“They’ve been instrumental in getting me back on the right track which has led to this opportunity.”
