Aussie Racing Cars duo set for Supercars test

THE Blanchard Racing Team is set to reward CoolDrive-sponsored Aussie Racing Cars drivers Josh Anderson and Reece Chapman with a Supercar test.

The duo are in line to cut laps at Winton Motor Raceway on June 7 as part of a Super2 test day.

BRT is contesting its maiden Super2 campaign this year, with Aaron Love driving a Petronas-liveried Mustang.

That car, chassis PRA 1520, was raced by then BRT main game driver Tim Slade during part of the 2021 Repco Supercars Championship and all of 2022.

Love has already taken the car to two second-place finishes this season, in the Sunday Super2 races in Newcastle and Perth.

The CoolDrive-backed Aussie Racing Cars program has no link to BRT itself, besides sharing a mutual sponsor.

It’s the second straight season with two CoolDrive mini-Mustangs in action; Anderson won the 2022 title, while Chapman was the round runner-up at Symmons Plains last weekend.

“We have just got to finalise that but we’re going to be testing on June 7 with Aaron and the Super2 car,” Blanchard told V8 Sleuth of the opportunity for Anderson and Chapman.

“They have been doing a great job representing CoolDrive over the last couple of seasons and I just wanted to give them a bit of a reward for everything they have done for the CoolDrive business and give them a taste of a V8 Supercar.”

Anderson had voiced his desire to move into Supercars after his 2022 success.

“I’d love to race Supercars full time, I’ve been hooked on V8s since I first went to the Bathurst 1000 in 2004,” he told the Aussie Racing Cars website at the time.

“Obviously it’s an expensive sport, we’re working hard to put the budget together for Super3 next year… watch this space.”

It was a tough Tassie trip for BRT’s Gen3 Mustang, with Todd Hazelwood unable to recapture his Perth form.

Hazelwood finished 20th, 19th and 24th in the three Symmons Plains races, consequently dropping from 11th to 17th in the championship.

“Obviously it was a fair bit of a struggle,” Blanchard surmised.

“The weekend started pretty good, in both of the practice sessions the car was pretty good and then I’m not sure what’s happened, we just lost our way as the weekend went on, so we have got a bit of homework to do.”
