Bathurst 12 Hour driver fined $15,000

SILVER Class Mercedes driver Ross Poulakis has been fined $15,000 for disobeying red flags at the Bathurst 12 Hour.

The infringement came in Saturday morning’s Practice 5, when Poulakis continued around the circuit under red flags rather than returning immediately to pitlane.

The Harrolds Volante Rosso Motorsport Mercedes that Poulakis shares with Josh Hunt, Kevin Tse and Jonathan Hui was handed a 10-minute stop-go penalty during the session.

However, a monetary fine has also been applied for the breach, which was admitted to by Poulakis and did not require a stewards hearing.

“The Driver of Car 101 (Ross Poulakis) disobeyed Red Flags by failing (to) immediately slow, recording a speed of 258km/h through the Speed Trap on his second lap under Red Flag conditions after failing to return immediately to pitlane,” read the report.

The fine was issued at the end of a dramatic qualifying day in which two cars were disqualified from the qualifying Shootout.

All Mercedes runners were meanwhile handed a Balance of Performance penalty following the record-breaking pace shown by its leading runners.
