Brock/Moffat Holden to make Bathurst cameo

THE only car in which legends Peter Brock and Allan Moffat joined forces at Mount Panorama will make an on-track return at next month’s Repco Bathurst 1000.

Separately, Brock and Moffat won 13 of the 18 editions of the Great Race held between 1970 and 1987, with nine going Brock’s way and four to Moffat.

The one time they teamed up was 1986, in a Holden Dealer Team VK Commodore.

The all-star combination warmed up for the Mountain with pole position and fourth place in the Sandown 500.

Come Bathurst, disaster struck when Moffat crashed in practice, sparking a major rebuild.

Starting 11th on the grid, Brock quickly scythed his way through to second, but the #05 ultimately had to settle for fifth – not helped by splitting an oil cooler on the pitlane speed humps – as Allan Grice and Graeme Bailey took victory in their Chickadee Commodore.

Brock and Moffat never raced together again at the Mountain, with the latter returning to the Ford fold for his final two Bathurst 1000 attempts.

The high-profile albeit brief partnership will be remembered in less than a fortnight’s time as part of 60th anniversary celebrations at the Bathurst 1000 (October 5-8), with the Brock/Moffat VK added to a list of historic cars appearing at the event.

The car is owned by two-time Bathurst 12 Hour winner Kenny Habul.

More than just on display, it will take part in an on-track demo with James Brock – the stepson of Peter – behind the wheel.

James, 47, has a racing background including as an entrant in both the Bathurst 1000 and Bathurst 24 Hour.

Other cars confirmed for the demo include the 1993-winning VP Commodore and 2006-winning BA Falcon, which will be driven by Larry Perkins and Craig Lowndes respectively.
