Cameron pips new-look D’Alberto at Sandown

AARON Cameron has made a smooth start to the 2024 TCR Australia Series, sweeping Friday practice at Sandown.

Not deterred by the fact Garry Rogers Motorsport’s new-spec Peugeots are now a mid-season prospect, Cameron was quick out of the blocks, setting the fastest TCR time of the day in opening practice.

That effort, a 1:14.9292s, was more than three tenths clear of second-placed Ben Bargwanna, with 2022 champion Tony D’Alberto rounding out the top three.

D’Alberto improved to second in Practice 2, a mere 0.0248s off the 1:15.2467s afternoon benchmark set by Cameron.

D’Alberto is sporting a new look this season, his #2 Honda turning purple in support of the Starlight Children’s Foundation.

“Starlight is a wonderful Australian charity, providing support to sick children and their families during the most difficult times of their lives,” said Honda Australia director Carolyn McMahon.

“We are excited to work with Starlight and Tony throughout the 2024 season to create more joy for children and awareness for this wonderful organisation.”

D’Alberto is running the FL5 Civic Type R model he debuted last November at Sydney Motorsport Park.

TCR’s next on-track session will be a two-part qualifying starting 10:30am tomorrow.
