Davison puzzled by ‘pear-shaped’ end to Taupō

THERE was just one dip in Dick Johnson Racing’s return to form at Taupō Motorsport Park.

The Ford squad flashed speed in Friday practice, and then backed it up in the Saturday qualifying and race – overcoming some bad luck in the Top 10 Shootout – to nab a double podium.

Anton De Pasquale was back on the rostrum come Sunday afternoon, but this time he was a lone ranger as teammate Will Davison scuffled to 19th.

Davison has tended to be the stronger of the two in race trim, but the veteran was mystified and branded it “a day to forget”.

“We have to analyse what has gone wrong, because obviously we had a very strong car Friday, and an amazing day Saturday having us both on the podium, which is what I’ll try and focus on tonight and importantly, an amazing day for the team with Anton getting the Jason Richards Memorial Trophy,” he said.

“JR was a good mate of mine and seeing his mum and dad up there presenting the trophy was very, very cool.

“All in all, just very proud and happy for the team.

“I’m hurting a bit… but we’ll understand what happened because we had a lot of potential this weekend. Unfortunately, it all just went pear-shaped.”

Davison had finished second in Race 1 of the Taupō Super400 and holds ninth overall in the championship.
