KAI Allen will return to the Dunlop Super2 Series next year even after winning the 2023 title.
Allen did enough today to pip Zak Best for the overall season prize by six points.
It’s no secret Allen is an integral part of the Dick Johnson Racing pipeline and destined for a future with the famous Ford squad, with the 18-year-old tipped for a solo wildcard next year as well as a co-drive in one of its main Shell V-Power Racing Mustangs.
He made his Repco Bathurst 1000 debut last month in a DJR wildcard alongside Simona De Silvestro.
But with Anton De Pasquale and Will Davison both under contract for one more season, there is no full-time opening until 2025 – so Allen will continue to ply his trade with another Super2 campaign.
V8 Sleuth understands the Mount Gambier product is one of three Super2 drivers already locked in for Eggleston Motorsport next year; current teammates Cooper Murray and Jordyn Sinni also signed for 2024.
Allen will be the first Super2 title winner since Garry Jacobson (2016) to continue with the series for the following season.
He’ll also have the chance to become the first driver in history to win back-to-back Super2 titles.
“There’s a lot of young talent in Super2,” Allen said when asked by V8 Sleuth about defending his crown.
“It’s going to be hard to go back-to-back, but it’s possible, we’ve just to do the best we can next year.
“I’m sure there’ll be some new, young, fast, kids. I’m looking forward to it, we’ll have a crack and see how we go.”
