THE first car to win the Bathurst 1000 twice will feature at the Adelaide Motorsport Festival next year.
It’s the Holden VH Commodore SS which was driven to victory at Mount Panorama in 1982 and 1983.
Those results formed the first two legs of Peter Brock, Larry Perkins and the Holden Dealer Team’s Great Race three-peat.
The ’83 success holds a somewhat infamous place in history, given this particular VH Commodore SS had actually run as the #25 of John Harvey and Phil Brock’s, only for Perkins and Peter Brock to swap across to it when their #05 entry broke down.
Just two other cars have repeated the feat of multiple Bathurst 1000 wins: the Holden Racing Team’s VX Commodore of 2001/02, and a Triple Eight Race Engineering ZB Commodore in 2020 and 2022.
The HDT VH becomes the third car confirmed for the new PremiAir Hire Bathurst winners’ category at the 2024 Adelaide Motorsport Festival, to be held on March 16-17.
It joins the Nissan Skyline GT-R R32s that won the 1991 and 1992 editions of the Great Race.
