Erebus releases Brown for Triple Eight switch

IT’S official: Will Brown will depart Erebus Motorsport at the end of the year.

As exclusively reported by V8 Sleuth, Brown will make a shock switch to Triple Eight to replace Shane van Gisbergen for 2024.

Triple Eight has not yet confirmed its side of the deal yet, but that is only a matter of time, with van Gisbergen ditching Supercars in favour of NASCAR.

It was little more than a year ago that Erebus announced a contract extension for Brown through 2024, but the team has now granted him an early release “to explore new opportunities”.

Brown signed with Erebus in 2017 before making his Repco Supercars Championship debut with them at the 2018 Sandown 500, co-driving with Anton De Pasquale.

He stepped up into a full-time role in 2021 and has since chalked up five race wins.

Interestingly, Brown is in the middle in a four-way title fight between Erebus and Triple Eight, with the #9 Coca-Cola Camaro driver currently second.

“Will has been a part of our team for almost six years and while we are disappointed to see him go, it will be business as usual for the remainder of 2023,” said Erebus CEO Barry Ryan.

“Our combined focus is on securing both titles and building Erebus to be the best team in pitlane.”

Brown echoed Ryan’s sentiments.

“It’s been an incredible journey with Erebus, and I’m grateful for the experiences and opportunities I’ve had with the team,” said the 25-year-old.

“This decision wasn’t taken lightly, and I want to thank Erebus, the entire team, sponsors, and fans for their support during my time here.

“I’ll be giving my all in the remaining races and remain 100 percent committed to our joint goal of winning the drivers’ and teams’ championship with Erebus in 2023.”

Five rounds remain this season, starting with the OTR SuperSprint at The Bend on August 18-20.

It is not yet clear who will replace Brown at Erebus, although 2010 champion James Courtney is believed to be in the mix.
