Erebus renews Russell co-drive deal

EREBUS Motorsport will enter the Repco Supercars Championship endurance season with a line-up that’s unchanged since 2021.

The team has now confirmed David Russell will again partner Brodie Kostecki in the #99 entry.

Russell has starred in recent vists to Mount Panorama, helping Kostecki to third place in the 2021 Great Race and fourth last year.

Previously, Erebus had only announced the retention of Jack Perkins alongside Will Brown.

“I definitely enjoy my time with the whole Erebus team so I’m very happy to be back again for a third year,” Russell said.

“To have the continuity of working with the same driver, the same engineering group and the same team, it adds an extra level of confidence and means we can get down to work straight away.

“Brodie’s an incredible driver and he’s very talented so for me to be there and support him in these two big races is great.”

Russell also voiced his excitement about the return of the Sandown 500, making for two co-driver races.

“The Sandown 500 is such a nostalgic race for many and one that I’ve been a part of personally for a number of years,” the 41-year-old said.

“It’s like a pre-run before the grand final and it’s good to iron out the little basics and get some practice in the lead up to Bathurst, especially with the introduction of Gen3.

“Part of being a professional driver is being able to get into something new and figuring out what makes a car tick so you can go fast in it so I’m really looking forward to turning my first laps in the new car.”

Chris Pither had been linked to an Erebus co-drive, although a wildcard may yet be possible. Pither acted as Driving Standards Advisor at the recent Shannons SpeedSeries opener for categories including TCR Australia.

All of the top six teams in Supercars pitlane – Triple Eight, Dick Johnson Racing, Tickford Racing, Walkinshaw Andretti United, Grove Racing and Erebus – have now locked in their 2023 co-drivers.

Team 18 has also retained the services of Michael Caruso, while Dylan O’Keeffe and Joey Mawson are firming for PremiAir Racing.
