Ex-Lowndes Holden returns to action

JIM Pollicina is eager to add to the history of one of Triple Eight’s first Holden Supercars.

Chassis 888A-025 debuted in the hands of Craig Lowndes at the 2010 Yas Marina round to mark a new Triple Eight era, the team having defected from Ford at the end of the previous season.

Lowndes raced the VE Commodore for the first half of 2010 and for the entirety of 2012, when he took seven race wins and was runner-up in the championship.

Since then, 888A-025 has been raced in lower tiers of Supercars, first by Geoff Emery and then by Pollicina (2019 onwards).

Pollicina finished third in the 2022 Super3 standings and is now setting his focus on the relaunched Kumho V8 Touring Cars Series, which begins at Phillip Island on May 12-14.

“My intent is to go out there and focus on achieving an outright podium in every single race, but winning the Privateers Cup is of course an absolute priority at this stage,” he said.

“It is always good if you can do well in the outright, it always depends on circumstances in each race, but we are heading to Phillip Island to make up as many places as possible and get ourselves a result.

“It is very difficult to tell how competitive it will be, but I’m looking forward to it.”

Pollicina also hailed the return of the V8TC, which now falls under the Australian Racing Group umbrella.

“I think it’s refreshing the series has re-established itself to allow the Blueprint cars to run, it was previously an outstanding category and when it obviously merged with another series during COVID, it was a shame to lose the championship,” he said.

“But I am overjoyed it has been re-established, and it’s going to be great to see the cars that have been sitting in the sheds finally back out on track.

“It will be good to see the numbers build again, it’s really refreshing this category has re-emerged and I will be supporting it as much as I can.”

Pollicina also made an appearance in the Dunlop Super3 Series in Newcastle earlier this year, aboard a former Greg Murphy Racing VE Commodore.
