Feeney pays tribute to Quinn

BROC Feeney savoured the chance to share a special podium with Tony Quinn in New Zealand.

Quinn’s long-awaited opportunity to host Supercars at one of his four circuits came to fruition last weekend at Taupō Motorsport Park.

The event was widely regarded as a success. Adding to the emotions for Quinn was a Sunday one-two for Triple Eight, the team which he co-owns.

The Scotsman was nominated as Triple Eight’s winning team representative for the subsequent podium ceremony.

“It was unreal to share the podium with Quinny and see how emotional he was and how much it meant to him,” said Feeney, who finished second behind Will Brown.

“I know how much work he has put in to getting these tracks up to the state they’re in and Supercars events racing here.

“For him to have a team one-two at a track that he owns is pretty awesome.

“He’s such an advocate for motorsport so we’re pretty lucky to have him in the team.”

As for the on-track result, Feeney was gracious in defeat, congratulating Brown on “an epic win”.

“On the #88 side of the garage, we have a bit of work to do to make that little step forward to be just as quick at the #87,” he said.

Brown leads the championship by 71 points.
