Finer details of Tickford TRC retention revealed

THE long-standing Rod Nash Racing licence remains in play despite Tickford Racing downsizing its Repco Supercars Championship program.

Tickford managing director Rod Nash has confirmed the two Teams Racing Charters sold to Supercars last year were direct Tickford licences – i.e. co-owned by Nash and Sven Burchartz.

One of those found its way onto the proverbial shelf, and the other was on-sold to facilitate the Blanchard Racing Team’s expansion.

That leaves Tickford with one fully team-owned TRC plus the RNR licence.

“It was just my choice because I suppose I’m MD and I’ve had that since 1998, the #55,” Nash told selected media.

“It means nothing in the background because it’s just a TRC, but that was the choice of it.”

Despite the retention of the RNR TRC, Nash admitted he’d initially entered Tickford’s 2024 numbers as #5 and #6 – before opting to swap #5 for #55.

“#5 and #6, that’s been FPR since ’03,” he said.

“I just went back to the grassroots, begrudgingly to me because I would have liked to have put #55 in, but I was just acting as leader of our business in that it should be #5 and #6.

“So I did that, and then internally, the team started debating about what they should be.

“And because we have been doing a lot of changes, we felt that a lot of things we were changing we were just being robotic…

“Thomas (Randle), he’s an interesting character and he worked us over big time. It was almost as if he couldn’t race if he didn’t have #55 on his car.

“There was a bit of positive banter. The team just workshopped it.”

Tickford is one of four Supercars teams yet to reveal its 2024 liveries, along with Erebus Motorsport, Dick Johnson Racing and PremiAir Racing.

Tickford’s two Mustangs will be driven by Cam Waters (#6 Monster Energy) and Randle (#55 Castrol).
