Ford’s Falcon celebrated in new book

A NEW book celebrating the history of Ford’s Falcon on the road and the racetrack has been released.

The hardcover 256 page ‘Ford Falcon Commemorative Edition’ celebrates the much-loved nameplate’s six-decade rule of Aussie roads and racetracks and is available here now to order.

The book is available to order now from the V8 Sleuth Superstore here.

From the first Falcons of the 1960s through to the last Falcon – the FG X – the new book features all of the popular models in depth.

It celebrates the mighty GT-HO and its Phase II and III versions, as well as hardtop Falcons, the Group C era race cars and the five-litre touring car/V8 Supercar versions from the EB through to the FG X.

Falcons won 17 Australian Touring Car/V8 Supercars Championships, the first in 1973 with Allan Moffat at the wheel of the XY Falcon GT-HO Phase III.

Falcon’s last championship win came in 2018 with Scott McLaughlin at the wheel of the #17 Shell V-Power Racing Team/DJR Team Penske Falcon FG X.

The nameplate also won 14 Bathurst 1000s – the first in 1967 with Harry Firth and Fred Gibson driving am XR GT and the last in 2014 with Chaz Mostert and Paul Morris at the wheel of the Pepsi Max Crew FG Falcon.

Ford legend Allan Moffat won the Bathurst classic four times in the 1970s at the wheel of Falcons, while Craig Lowndes and Jamie Whincup took a three-peat covering 2006 to 2008 at the wheel of Triple Eight-built and run Falcons.

The Falcon made its last appearance in Supercars at the season finale in Newcastle in 2018 before being replaced by the Mustang for the 2019 season.

A new era Gen3 Mustang will replace the current Gen2-specification Mustang for next year’s Repco Supercars Championship.
